XP, Brazil’s largest brokerage by market capitalization, has launched a cryptocurrency trading platform.
According to the company, users can currently trade bitcoin (BTC) and ether on the platform (ETH). According to Lucas Rabechini, XP financial products director, the company plans to offer exposure to ten digital currencies by the end of the year.

Rabechini stated that XP, which has 3.6 million customers, expects to reach 200,000 crypto active users by the end of the year. Following moves in recent months by large local players Nubank, MercadoLibre, and PicPay, XP is the latest major Brazilian fintech player to offer crypto trading services. According to the two companies, Nubank and MercadoLibre have already surpassed one million crypto users.

XP’s crypto platform, dubbed XTAGE, is based on Nasdaq’s trading technology and will integrate with MetaTrade 5, a forex and stock trading tool, according to the company. XP also stated that it has hired cryptocurrency custody firm BitGo to store XTAGE’s assets, the majority of which will be held in cold wallets that are not connected to the internet.
