Uniswap Labs, the primary creator of the decentralized exchange system Uniswap, is launching a new NFT marketplace, which it thinks would bridge the gap between cryptocurrency exchanges and conventional marketplaces.

“Historically, tokens and NFTs have been viewed as two distinct experiences. In the end, though, they are both digital assets, and the objective is to provide artists and communities universal ownership in exchange. Scott Gray, head of NFT product at Uniswap Labs, stated that NFTs and tokens are only two distinct approaches to unleash value in our digital worlds.

The marketplace collects NFTs available for purchase from OpenSea, X2Y2, LooksRare, Sudoswap — including its pools, which sell NFTs along price curves — Larva Labs, X2Y2, Foundation, and NFT20.

The developer has been working on the project since June, when it acquired the NFT aggregator Genie as part of its attempts to expand its product offerings to include NFTs and ERC-20 tokens.

It also said that Genie will stay accessible until the new Uniswap NFT experience was released. The Genie website will redirect to the NFTs on the Uniswap website for the time being. The launch includes around $5 million in benefits for qualifying past Genie customers.
