After his attorneys requested that the sentencing of Sam Bankman-Fried, former CEO of the insolvent crypto exchange FTX, be moved from March 28 to “early-mid May 2024,” US federal judge Lewis Kaplan denied.

On Thursday, Bankman-Fried is set for a pre-sentence interview with the United States Probation and Pretrial Services System, which will recommend a sentence. His attorneys claimed that the defense requires additional time to prepare for the sentencing procedure. The defense needs “to collect materials necessary for the sentencing submission and to prepare for the presentence interview,” the attorneys wrote, claiming that government disclosures required for sentencing will not be filed until February 2.

Bankman-Fried is also scheduled to stand trial again on March 11 on allegations of suspected bank fraud and bribery of Chinese government officials. His attorneys claimed that the government had yet to determine whether or not to continue.
