Jessica Tsai Chin, a former WhatsApp and Nike executive, has been tapped to lead the Algorand Foundation’s marketing activities.
Chin, who was formerly the head of brand for global privacy at the Meta-owned messaging app, told The Block in a written interview that she was intrigued to a career in crypto because she was interested in privacy and digital identity.
“Many web2 organizations are having difficulty adopting the notion of decentralization and data ownership,” she added, “but there is a big chance to develop in this direction.” “I believe that data privacy should be incorporated in by design and enabled by default.”
Chin is starting her first job in a web3 firm at a time when the industry is in flux. The failure of significant participants, most notably crypto exchange FTX and hedge fund Three Arrows Capital, has shaken the cryptocurrency market. Genesis, a cryptocurrency lender, filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy last week.
Crypto firms have already been chastised for their marketing by advertising watchdogs and regulators alike, with deceptive claims of future returns attempting to entice buyers.
She sees the current crisis as an opportunity to alter how web3 firms sell themselves, despite the fact that the general non-crypto native population views digital assets negatively.
“Web3 marketing must actually lead the fight,” she asserted. “We need to move away from pure hype marketing and toward a lot more true, community-centered, and human-centered environment, aggressively leveling the playing field in terms of who has access to what.”
