Optimism, an Ethereum Layer 2 scaling platform, has chosen June 6 as the official date for a major upgrade to its mainnet known as Bedrock.
“Bedrock will improve the security and resilience of the OP Mainnet bridge,” the foundation said, adding that fees would be reduced dramatically. “Bedrock is designed to have the smallest possible difference on Ethereum.” Ethereum equivalency + reduced complexity means less room for problems, simpler contribution from ecosystem developers.”
“If you are a node operator, you will need to spin up a brand new node deployment for Bedrock,” the foundation continued.
Optimism employs optimistic rollups, a method that enables the bundling of several transactions into a single transaction on the Ethereum blockchain. On the platform, the network has around $863 million in locked assets.
