According to a European Parliament investigation, the EU’s digital euro may face hurdles in non-euro member countries.
The Economic Governance and EMU Scrutiny Unit’s research outlined issues associated with the use of the CBDC in non-eurozone member states. The most significant of these is that monetary recognition of the digital euro across the entire bloc would necessitate the passage of international treaties between the EU and third-party governments.
“Any arrangement between the ECB and a non-euro area national central bank would have to be preceded by an international agreement between the European Union and the third country,” according to the paper.
