Near Protocol, a decentralized application (DApp), will release a new blockchain operating system focused on enhancing the Web3 user experience via a shared layer for perusing and finding open web resources, the company announced at the Web3 and innovation festival ETHDenver 2023.

During the event, Near co-founder Illia Polosukhin spoke with Bitfinsider about how the community is becoming more user-centric and the introduction of the Blockchain Operating System (BOS).

According to the Near team, the system is compatible with any blockchain or Web2 server, enabling users to experience a unified app even when moving between apps or networks. The solutions claim to provide decentralized and composable frontends for developers, allowing the forking of pieces and components and built-ins such as payments, profiles, and notifications without the need for hosting.

The protocol, which is a competitor to Ethereum with smart contract capabilities and a proof-of-stake blockchain, aimed for a 10-fold increase in key metrics such as number of transactions, active monthly wallets, projects onboarded, developers, and money invested in the ecosystem, according to the co-founder.
