According to a Friday story by Tech Crunch, Meta Platforms (META), Facebook’s parent business, is working on a decentralized text-based app.
According to the story, which cites a Meta representative, the app will be a separate product for sharing text messages.

“We think there is a chance for a separate place where creators and public personalities can share timely information about their hobbies,” according to a Meta spokesperson.

The program, dubbed P92, is still in the works. It will enable users to register in using their Instagram credentials, as Meta also owns the photo-sharing social media site. According to the story, it will support the ActivityPub protocol, which is also supported by Mastodon, the decentralized social media network that garnered traction following Elon Musk’s purchase of Twitter.

In 2021, Mark Zuckerberg’s social media empire changed its corporate moniker from Facebook to represent its Web3-related goals, especially in the metaverse.
