For around 25 minutes on Thursday, the Ethereum mainnet was unable to properly confirm transactions, with blocks suggested but not finalized.

Users of the blockchain saw that their transactions were being processed. However, they were at risk of being altered within the 25-minute period due to the glitch.

Some Ethereum core developers announced on Twitter that the blockchain was not finishing and that they were looking into the problem. In the past, a glitch in a client – the software that runs the blockchain – produced a similar problem.

After about 25 minutes, the mainnet was once again finalizing blocks. The developers stated that they are still researching what caused the outage and would provide an update to the community as soon as possible.
