Circle CEO Jeremy Allaire verified that a tweet offering USDC users a one-time bonus in the shape of an airdrop was a hoax.
Allaire went to Twitter to claim that the company’s chief strategy officer and director of policy’s accounts had been hacked. In an email to The Block, a spokesman for the Boston-based business stated that the thread is “not genuine.”
The tweets originated from Circle’s Dante Disparte’s account and stated USDC holders would receive a bonus following the stablecoin’s depeg earlier this month. According to the compromised account, the “one-time bonus” for USDC members would take the shape of an airdrop.
One tweet in the conversation directed to a URL that did not belong to Circle.
Following the failures of Silvergate and Silicon Valley Bank, Circle’s USDC stablecoin depegged on March 6th.
