The core team of Base, a blockchain network sponsored by Coinbase, has announced that it is preparing for an imminent mainnet launch. However, the launch is contingent on several conditions being fulfilled.

“Our launch criteria include demonstrated testnet stability, Optimism’s successful upgrade of Bedrock, and completion of reviews and audits,” the Base team explained in a blog post, emphasizing their intention to ensure secure network operations.

Optimism’s June-scheduled Bedrock enhancement is anticipated to increase the security and resiliency of the Optimism mainnet bridge. This enhancement is regarded as essential for projects constructed upon it, such as Base.

Base is a rollup network built on Optimism’s development software platform, known as the OP platform. It intends to implement off-chain computations on a secondary layer to facilitate faster, cheaper transactions, while preserving the security advantages of the Ethereum mainnet. Moreover, this solution could become Coinbase’s default Layer 2 network for on-chain products.
