Axie Infinity is a popular non-fungible token (NFT) play and earn game. It’s a blockchain-based game in which participants purchase NFTs of appealing axolotls before fighting them. Players can earn SLP tokens during games, which they can then convert for cash through an exchange. Such a hit would be damaging, if not crippling, to the business.
The MEE6 bot on Axie Infinity’s discord server was hacked on Wednesday, according to the company. The hackers, according to the team, utilized the MEE6 bot to grant access to a fake Jiho account and make phony mint announcements. MEE6 is a Discord bot that allows admins to assign and revoke responsibilities as well as deliver messages automatically.
The developers were able to eliminate the bogus messages as well as the compromised MEE6 bot from the main server. However, the project’s official Twitter account warns that many users may continue to see the bogus message until they restart Discord.
The Discord bot hack follows one of the largest heists on Axie Infinity’s Ronin bridge, which resulted in the loss of nearly $600 million in crypto assets. The community’s faith in the game, which was previously seen as a groundbreaking endeavor in the gaming world, has been shaken by a series of security breaches.
