Customers can now pay Gucci with ApeCoin

APE payments will now be accepted by Gucci. The luxury fashion house announced the news on Tuesday via its Twitter handle, revealing that it has begun accepting ApeCoin payments as ‘yet another step in the House’s exploration of Web3.’ Customers could pay in ApeCoin via the BitPay app for in-store purchases at select Gucci boutiques and retail outlets across the United States, according to the announcement. This means that APE will be added to the list of leading cryptocurrencies already accepted as payment at Gucci stores.

The House of Gucci has made significant advancements in the Web3 space. The fashion behemoth has been dabbling in the NFT waters and has also signed several Web3 deals with companies such as 10KTF, SUPERPLASTIC, and SuperRare. In May 2022, the brand began accepting cryptocurrencies as payment for in-store purchases at select US locations. Bitcoin, Ethereum, Dogecoin, Bitcoin Cash, Litecoin, Shiba Inu, and several stablecoins are among the accepted cryptocurrencies.

The brand also entered the metaverse with the virtual Gucci Garden, which debuted on Roblox in 2021 and has since drawn millions of visitors. It even sold a virtual designer purse on the platform for more than the actual price of the original purse. Gucci’s other metaverse conquests include designing ‘skins’ for digital avatars in Pokemon Go and Animal Crossing, as well as purchasing virtual land in The Sandbox.
