Stifel Financial polled 70 company executives, and nearly all of them (nearly 79%) agreed that the US economy is either already in a recession (18%) or will experience one within the next 18 months. Only 3% of people anticipate complete avoidance.

The study also discovered that the two top perceived obstacles to operating a business today are inflation and the tight labor market.

According to the survey, 53% of participants think that inflation will be a problem for the next two to twelve months, while another 43% think that high prices will last even longer.

Due to a decline in energy prices, the most recent Consumer Price Index (CPI) indicated a moderate reduction in inflation. Prices increased by 8.5% annually in July, which is a decrease from the previous month’s estimate of 9.1%. Consumer prices in July remained constant as compared to the previous month.

The consumer, retail, and diversified industrials sectors were the focus of the survey’s exclusive inquiry into corporate leaders, business owners, and private equity investors.
